Silverstone Classic 2014

On Thursday morning we travelled down to the Silverstone Classic international race weekend 2014 and this year they were celebrating the Ford mustangs 50th anniversary. Brayon Classic engineering travelled down to race their 1965 notchback mustang with driver Tom Gray at the wheel, joining us was Alasdair Coates in his mustang aswell. On arrival we parked up next to a good friend Alvin Powells motorhome and spent the weekend enjoying the company of Alvin and his son Matthew, we even had the pleasure of meeting "The Grimsby Boys" on Saturday. Through out the weekend we were joined by fellow friends from Scotland who had travelled down for the two days.
Firmly established as the world’s biggest classic motor racing festival, the line-up for the 2014 Silverstone Classic featured the most exciting racing action including historic Formula One, sports cars, ‘Le Mans’ sports prototype, GT and touring car grids. With over 20 races and over 1000 cars competing the racing action was non stop.
New grids announced for 2014 included 90s GT Legends, Classic F3 and the Mustang Celebration Trophy presented by Pure Michigan.
As in previous years, Friday was a full day of qualifying from every grid, whilst Saturday and Sunday hosted over 10 races each day.

Saturday’s Mustang parade was the focal point of the golden anniversary celebrations at this summer’s Silverstone Classic along with a host of other Mustang-minded attractions. These include:

An evocative “Silver Bullitt” homage starring an iconic dark green Mustang GT Fastback and a black Dodge Charger as seen in the famous car chase from the movie Bullitt.

Taking to the air above the famous grand prix circuit there were displays by equally iconic P51 Mustang WW2 fighters.

As well as Canned Heat and Bonnie Tyler, this year’s live music line-up included Aerosmith tribute band.
The sun shone non stop for the whole three days, but despite alot of the mustangs running very hot due to the high temperatures Tom and Alasdair finished their races with great final placings and unscathed race cars!

*Sad news from race that was on just before the mustangs. Denis Welch succumbed to his injuries from an accident in the pre '66 race. Our thoughts go out to the Welch family and friends at this very difficult time.*
